I’m Dawid Tomkalski, a software architect who still writes the code.
I work with SaaS teams as a fractional architect and tech lead, through my company DaTom. I’m based on the Gold Coast and work remotely across Australia and New Zealand.
I’ve built software for 18 years. The last eight were at Homhero, where I started as a senior software engineer and became its solutions architect. I designed its serverless platform for holiday-rental managers across Australia and New Zealand and shaped Hompay, its payments stack. My last project there was Homtrust, a multi-tenant trust accounting platform that Australian agencies use to hold client money, where I led the architecture from 2023 to 2026.
I started DaTom in 2014 and ran it alongside those roles, taking on architecture, integration and AI workflow projects for clients. Since leaving Homhero in 2026 it has been my full-time work. When you hire DaTom, you work with me: no account managers, no hand-offs.
Before Homhero I worked in the UK from 2008 on intranets, learning management systems and financial web services, then in Australia on lending, payroll, telecoms and insurance products. I co-founded a startup, introduced Scrum and test-driven development to several teams, and mentored a lot of engineers along the way.
I care about systems that stay correct when something fails, that are secure from the start, and that the team who inherits them can run without me. I explain trade-offs in plain language, so the people paying for them can decide.
